Resolved Question: Where is my drink? Poem that i'd like reviewed?

Where Is My Drink Give me a drink, I want to get drunk It's about time, my boat has now sunk All of my dreams were tossed in the flames All of my friends have forgotten their names They forgot who they were, like many before I lost my purpose the day I fell to the floor I had lots of hope but it was crushed to the ground Love for one's neighbor, can no longer be found Everyone's lost and drowning in their fate We all share dreams, but hope is the bait They reel us in and we blindly walk forward They cut up our dreams with our very own sword Where is my drink, it's been quite awhile I can't remember the last time I smiled I don't care about others cause they don't care about me They put down my efforts at being the best that I can be I write to get by, that's what they all say I lived in a place, but I didn't get to stay I was grabbed by the throat and tossed to the sand I lost all my dreams, on Satan's command Now I'm getting tired, and time is ticking fast I asked for a drink but the drink didn't last I want to forget and I want to move on I want all these memories to finally be gone I cut at my wrist but the blood doesn't fall I wrote a small book that won't be remembered at all I tried to be nice and I tried to be sweet But that way of life, knocked me right off my feet Now I am angry which is not how I should be And my lyrical content, will not release me Hopes are a waste, I shouldn't even bother Some say I'm crazy, but I can't blame my father I need to be chained, locked away behind bars The past I once lived has left many scars I know in my soul that some won't ever fade Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I stayed I can't wonder “What if.” I can't dwell on the past Life can be ruined and it can happen fast It did to me, and look where I am now, Not what you expected, huh?  more

Resolved Question: What size of shark would do this?

While fishing for shark and rays at Flinders on the weekend my shark rod started going ballistic. I have a 36kg rollered game rod with a heavy game trolling reel filled with 500m of 100lb dyneema braid. Terminal tackle was 2ft of 200lb nylon coated wire trace with ganged 8/0 stainless hooks. On full drag (as tight as I could physically get it) this mysterious creature of the deep pulled 180m of line off in less than 20 seconds. I have had some large fish on this rod but nothing like this. Any ideas on the size of shark (assuming shark because of the speed) that could have done this. For what it is worth I managed to get a 5 minute fight out of it but is headed into a large group of anchored boats. The anchor chains ended up cutting the line. Thanks all who respond. more

Resolved Question: can you use this type of lure to catch large tarpon?

we saw a bunch of huge tarpon off this fishing pier, and we're trying to figure out the best way to get one hooked. we are going back tomorrow, and were gonna try throwing live finger mullet and this lure (that i picked up today) at it. any other advice is helpful, but my question is, is there a chance this lure will work, and can this lure be used by reeling instead of trolling, cause were fishing from a pier, not a boat. http://www.mannsbait.com/TopPerformers/TP-BlueWater.html the lure i bought is the "30 +" one at the top of the page. thanks =] i was also wondering, with the finger mullet, would it be best to fish them on the bottom, at the top with a large bobber, or just free line it? thanks again =] more

Resolved Question: What bait casting fishing reel to use (Round or Low Profile) for Inshore Pier Fishing.?

Hi, I'm planing to buy a new Bait-casting reel but I'm not sure what to buy Round or Low Profile. I'm planing to use this for Inshore Pier fresh water fishing or maybe on a fishing boat for Salmon fishing too. I want something I can put my rod in a rod holder that is attached to the Piers or boat railings. I saw couple of Anglers in our area 'Pier' and they are using Rounded ones. If I'm going to get a Rounded ones can use this also for offshore fishing too? I just want to make my money's worth by buying just one good reel that can do both. What reel would recommend base on your choice above whether Round or Low Profile if you have a budget of $200. I heard a lot of good things for Low Profile reels but I'm not sure if it can handle Big Salmons. Thanks galit_sa_chat  more

Resolved Question: Fishing rod for mackerel, tuna, barracuda, etc?

I'm looking at fairly expensive jigging rods rated PE 5-6. and Shimano/Abu Garcia spinning reels. Could someone clarify what pe 5-6 means? IE what size of fish are possible with this set up? A friend of mine disagrees with that kind of tackle for sea fishing and recommends a boat rod (trawling) with casting reel. I don't like casting reels, and have never used one, as I've always gone for river and lake fishing. Any advice welcome - and links to product sites. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Fishing question on a BOat?

Hello again.I haven't taken the boat out yet this weekend will be the first time. However I do want to fish off the boat really bad..NOW when you fish on a boat do you have to throw the reel out far like you do when you fish from the shore? And is it better to stop completly in a spot and fish or is it better to troll? And does the same bait from shore work for deeper water?Ok I may have caused some confusion..I'm new to fishing so I may be using the wrong words..When I say throwing the reel I actually mean casting the line as you would from shore..Just basically want to know how far to cast it or would you just drop it in the water?? more

Resolved Question: How does a braid line compare with a mono nylon line in beach/surf cast fishing?

I beach fish a lot for salmon (& whatever small stuff about) & have always used 25lb Jarvis Walker mono nylon line. I use a braid line while boat fishing but have had problems with braid lines while rock fishing - too light & affected by the wind too much. I have just bought myself a new surf casting front drag spinning reel & was wondering what strength line to put on it. I hope someone can make sense of my waffling & can give me some advice. Should I stick to 25lb mono nylon line, or try braid line & increase the breaking strain strength to give me a slightly heavier line to combat the wind. The place where I do my fishing is actually named "Windy Harbour". more

Resolved Question: How many feel we are getting way to?

Technical in our sporting equipment? Reels with computer chips to control back lashes, side view sonar, etc. Rifle scopes with range finding abilities and being able to show you the drop of the bullet. Come on I might be 60 but still consider hunting and fishing a sport. With all the tech stuff showing up on the market pretty soon your reel will do everything, what fun is that going to be? Granted both my boats have GPS/Fish Finders and most of my reels are not cheap. But if this keeps up where will the fun and the sport of chase be left. Our waters and lands are being pressure way to much as it is. Be well my friends Very Good Answers so far, nice to see their are some sporting people left. Resolved Question: Rod/Reel Maintenance Tip?

Let me set the scene: you've been on the water all day, the ocean was choppy, the wind was constant. When you finally get home and you unhook the boat and put it in your garage, what do you do with your gear? You spray it down with your garden hose, right? WRONG!!* If you do that, you can actually aid in the corrosion process. What you want to do is buy furniture polish. Yeah, that's right, furniture polish, preferably Orange Glo in a spray bottle or aerosol can. Then, spray down everything: the rod guides, the rod, the reel, and the reel seat; let that sit for about 15 minutes, then come back and wipe it down. By letting the rod sit, you're allowing the polish to seep into the reel and break down the salt. Hope this helps. Tight lines!! :D *The capital letters are meant to add emphasis to the word.I picked up this tip by watching an episode of Inshore Fishing Techniques with Capt. Eric Mannino. more

Resolved Question: Which sea fishing tackle is for me?

I used to go fishing a little bit when iwas small but gave up. I recently went on a chartered boat trip as a bit of a jolly and loved it and would like to start again. Resolved Question: Movie mistakes? Anyone else look for them?

When I watch a movie, I am always on the lookout for mistakes that have been made and that have been overlooked. For Example in the movie 'Jaws'. When Robert Shaw is in the captain's chair, trying to reel in the shark with the deep-sea fishing pole, his socks change color. Also, in the scene where Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss are trying to out-do each other bragging about their wounds, Robert Shaw takes out his tooth and explains how he lost it. But~ when he slides down the boat into the shark's mouth, you can clearly see the tooth back in place, even though he never had time to put it back in. Do you have a blooper like these that you have noticed? more

Resolved Question: Where Should I go to Fish in WV?

I live in Parkersburg, WV. I just got back today from a camping trip to Blackwater Falls. I fished Pendelton Lake and the Blackwater River (used both fly rod, reel, and bait, and an open reel with a variety of baits). I was only able to hook 1 trout on my fly reel in 3 days of fishing. I am looking for an area to fish in WV that has some nice size bass in it.I really would prefer a good lake to go to. I have fished Cedar Lakes in Fairplains, WV and reeled in a couple, but that's about all the luck I have had. I do not have a boat, so that really limits my fishing. If you know of anywhere to catch some nice ones (I don't intend to keep them), PLEASE let me know! more

Resolved Question: What is a good lightweight ocean rod for a woman?

I have tendinitis in my wrist and lately the rods the men have on the boat have made it unbearable, especially when I go to set the hook and when reeling in, too. The rods are just too heavy for my wrist...so, please, recommend some good lightweight ocean rods. I'd really like to research before I go in to the shop to try & buy one. Links and/or pics are a bonus. I (try to anyway) fish for flounder. I grew up fishing, but never really learned much about it. I just recently started to attempt to educate myself, so I'll be around with all kinds of questions. I was much better as a kid. I think I kinda suck now ;-( Thanks more

Resolved Question: Maximum casting distance?

I'm currently trying to fish for Summer lakers in a local reservoir. The problem is, you can only fish from shore. No boats allowed. I need to hit the deep holes and I want to cast far. I was thinking about attaching my regular fishing reel to one of my surf casting rods. Would this work to help increase my casting distance?I'm already using a 1 oz slip sinker and 12lb test line, so I really don't want to add more weight to the line as trout in general can be skittish.I'm using just regular spinning reels more

Resolved Question: What are we doing wrong?

My husband and I recently started fishing in our local area, northern MS. We've been fishing for about three weeks now, going just about every day between 6pm and 9pm. We do not have a boat, so we have to do it at the shore. We've been to three different lakes. All three of these lakes are supposed to be good for Crappie, Catfish, and Bass. We have tried both the spin-casting reels and the spinning reel, with 20lb. test line. We have tried Eagle Claw single hooks in both the crappie and catfish sizes as well as treble hooks. We have tried minnows, nightcrawlers, crickets, spoons, chatterbait, soft and hard plastics, stink bait, dead shad, dead crawdads, hotdogs, cheese, even smoked sausage. We have tried it at 2', 3', and at the bottom (but we always get hung that way) and have yet to pull out anything but Gar. We've had a lot of our bait stolen, but can't pull out anything worth keeping. Can someone please tell me what we are doing wrong, or give me some tips. Thanks. We will definitely try the lighter line test and will give the slip bobber a shot. As far as going in the morning or later at night, we can only do it once a week, because I work the other days. We typically fish in the spillway, on most days it's not deep enough to go much deeper than 3' without getting hung on the rocks underneath. Also, there really isn't much cover for the fish other than the rocks out there. People still pull stuff out of there though, even though we haven't. We will use the slip bobber and try to bring it deeper, but I don't know how much further we can go. Using a regular bobber if you go deeper than 3', then you get hung on the rocks on the retrieve. Maybe it'll be different with the slip bobber. I do think the lighter test line might help us feel possible bites because we do tend to lose a LOT of bait to thieves, and that is probably why. I just worry about those BIG Gar breaking the line, but if it helps us catch other fish, then we'll do it. more

Resolved Question: What kind of fish do you think this was? (deep sea fishing with my dad)?

We were deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico off of the Panama City shore line. We'd all been pretty much catching the same kind of fish, (except for some guy on the south side of the boat who caught some thing as long as his arm and as big around as a CD)..... Then my dad pulled up a fish that cause all the workers on the boat to come running, yelling "DON'T TOUCH THAT FISH" It was a bright, fluorescent yellow fish. Very thin, but round (like a discus). It had red fins. There was a bright blue on the fish somewhere... I think it was the eyes but I can't be sure. On of the boat's workers used a really long hook to just cut my dad's line before he reeled the fish into the boat... explaining that the scales on the fish were poisonous and one little poke from a scale could knock-out a man and a handful would kill him. What in the world could this be?. . . . It was definitely NOT a lionsfish. It was sort of flat, like a flounder and a solid flourescent yellow. No stripes.it was also not a mahimahi (the "dolphin" you mention) those are not poisonous. This has been driving me crazy since the day I saw it 2 years ago. more

Resolved Question: Sea shore fishing question, please help, beginner in distress?

Hello, today I went out to Key Biscayne in Florida to go fishing at the shore, it was a little fishing spot they had all the way at the end of the key. Anyway, I noticed that almost all types of non boat fishing have a bunch of rocks at the shore. I was fishing with a 20 pound line and a reel rod, using a weight and hook only. I threw my line out about 50 feet or something, and reeled it a little and just stood there. My problem was, after a while I noticed that my line ended up at the shore, when I went to go reel it back in, bam... it got stuck on rocks (about 9 times in 2 hours). My friend says he doesn't really fish in the sea, but I probably should have been using a "bobber" so the hook wouldn't be on the ground. Can you guys please give me any tips? (I might have been throwing my line out further than 50 feet, just FYI.Also note, I am not looking to catch any specific types of fish. I just want to catch something that's edible, and doesn't taste bad. I wouldn't mind catching anything truthfully, going home empty handed is no fun.My fishing pole is exactly 7 feet including the handle if this matters any.Edit again, Fishing Rod* with Reel.Do I need a fishing bobber or something? I imagine the hook is on the ground the entire time without one, do I need one to catch a lot of fish? more

Resolved Question: I bought a fishing rod at an old thrift store. It's says I.G.F.A.50. It has a Shimano AX-400S Reel.?

Can anyone tell me anything about this rod? Like what does the I.G.F.A. 50 stand for? Or how many pounds the reel can take?. The rod says Coastal with a boat in front of the word Coastal. The reel says Shimano SPOOL F4 12/311,14/255/,17/220. Does that mean the minimum line test is 12lbs and max is 17? Or is this just a guide line. Also does that work well with this particular rod.
